Archetypes

Archetypes

ar·che·type

/ˈɑrkɪˌtaɪp/ Show Spelled[ahr-ki-tahyp] Show IPA

–noun

1.

the original pattern or model from which all things of the same kind are copied or on which they are based; a model or first form; prototype.
2.

(in Jungian psychology) a collectively inherited unconscious idea, pattern of thought, image, etc., universally present in individual psyches.
OK, that’s the dictionary and I am so happy to see Jung’s ideas are so much a part of the popular culture.
An archetype is a powerful pattern.  Since so much of its power comes directly from the unconscious, both personal and collective, we are more able to work with these patterns with image and expressive arts.
Essential to this deep work is a protective and supportive container.  Within this container or sacred space individuals are free to explore the inner world and actually identify and communicate with the patterns that influence their lives.
This deep work assists in making the unconscious conscious.  Life gets better and more resources are available to so we can become ourselves and use the energy of the archetypes rather than be used by it.
